Glee Fail

I’m not ashamed to admit it, I watch Glee. I was a theater/choir kid in high school and it’s high time that we had our day in the sun. It’s just too bad that day has been derailed by writers who forgot what they were doing during the layoff.

Glee has managed to pull off a rare feat in the world of TV. I have gone from not caring, to on the bandwagon, to it being worth a spot on my DVR rotation, to sort of hoping it would be taken off the air… in less than one whole season. Let me explain like only I can.

First off, there should be some sort of threat to the Glee Club besides “might get their funding cut.” How about a strain of Mono? I mean hell the entire school is making out with each other. That would be decent. The plot has become repetitive every week and the show has left behind what made it great. When Glee started, the songs were part of the story, and we actually somewhat cared about the story. Now, the story is just a way for them to come up with a new theme each week.

Do you know what I’m saying yet? You can’t say “remember that scene where (insert awesome thing here) happened” anymore. Like the scene where Finn (ridiculous name) sang/told Quinn’s parents about her being pregnant, that was something. No, now you have to say “what did you think of the Madonna episode?” Or “I wonder what sort of budgeting situation the school is facing that requires an ensemble to sing GaGa songs, OMG I CAN’T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK!1!”

Another thing. I don’t know if gay people are offended by Kurt, but there would be people protesting if there was character that over the top with racial stereotypes. I don’t even know how you would make a racial character that offensive without getting sued. If I were his dad I would have disowned him for how ridiculous his representation of trying to be a straight guy was. And the Glee Club probably would have kicked him out for singing a Mellencamp song. So he’s terrible in about 17 different ways.

There’s also no real concept of time in this show. I feel like in Glee time it’s been about 2 months since sectionals, but regionals are apparently perpetually “weeks away.” At one point it was football season, and then at another point it was basketball season. And Quinn seems to be getting more pregnant so I guess time is passing. I really don’t know. Whatever.

There is one saving grace. One reason I keep tuning in. And that reason is named Brittany. In fact, if they created an offshoot of Glee that just involved her dancing and saying ridiculous things, I would use up the valuable DVR space to record that in HD. Well and next week of course… because it’s a Gaga episode!!!

That’s it for tonight, I gotta focus in on this episode of Grey’s, apparently ABC is facing budget cuts and decided to off half the cast.
